The HCT formed at Wittering in January 1969, under Squadron Leader R. LeBrocq, to train the first group of Harrier pilots. Operated during spring 1969 from Dunsfold, moving back to Wittering in May. From July 1969 to October 1970 six courses trained the pilots of No.1 Squadron, util July 1970 without the benefit of the two-seat Harrier, but including five hours in helicopters. The HCT became the HCU on 1 April 1970, and then became 233 OCU on 1 October.
The HCT was re-formed in March 1987 as part of 233 OCU in order to train GR.3 pilots on the second generation GR.5, with eleven courses taking place up to November 1989 when the Team disbanded.
